Duplex is the technology that allows sending and receiving data and deciding the direction of transmission in the communication system where there are devices that can communicate with each other. This transmission structure can be provided in three ways.

FULL DUPLEX – It is the case of bidirectional data transmission. The communication device can receive and send data simultaneously over a single channel.

SIMPLEX – It is the transmission where the receiving device and the sending device are specified in data communication between two points, and the only functions of the devices are data transmission or data collection. For example, satellite antennas in our homes can only receive data.

HALF DUPLEX – It is the case of one-way data transmission. The communication device can either transmit only data or receive only data over a single channel at the same time. If data is to be received at the same time while sending over the channel, this data will be dropped and cannot be received. In the same way, if it is desired to send data while receiving data, this data appears to be sent, but it drops and transmission does not occur.

The advantages and disadvantages of the above-mentioned cases vary depending on their usage areas and topologies. It is exemplified by the image below.
